2023-24 Seasonal Structure

The CMHL executive, along with its member association representatives, held a meeting on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 to discuss the format for the 2023-24 season. CMHL recongnized that last year's format created some issues and decided that should be addressed moving forward.

Therefore, the structure for the 2023-24 as agreed to by the member associations and CMHL executive will be the following

  • Season Start: Friday, October 13, 2024
  • Provincial Qualifying Round: Games will be posted to start February 1st
    • Single round robin, or pooled divisions (random pools based on game days) based on division size
    • Top 4 teams (or top 2 teams in each pool) will advance to the semi-finals
    • Final to be completed no later than March 8, 2024
    • Winner advancing to the next phase of provincial qualifying
    • U15-AA and U18-AA typically send more than one team to Provincials - meaning the finalist team may also advance to provincials
  • CMHL Tournament of Champions: March 18-31, 2024 - Double elimination bracket scheduled on first available ice
  • Other Important Dates
    • HNS Day of Champions: April 13-14, 2024
    • U15-AA Provincials: April 6-9, 2024
    • U18-AA Provincials: April 6-9, 2024

  • NOTES
    • All regular season games and provincial qualifying games will be posted to the league site immediately so games can be rescheduled fluidly throughout the season. This means that teams may play a provincial qualifying game before February 1st and teams may play regular season games after February 1st.
    • The goal is for teams to play at least 30 games. Some divisions may play more, but no teams should play less than 30.
